Recently promoted Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan visits Morningside Pharmaceuticals

In what has been an extremely successful year for Morningside Pharmaceuticals; CEO Dr Nik Kotecha showed Loughborough MP Nicky Morgan around Morningside’s licensed premises in Castle Business Park.

Against a backdrop of continued uncertainty in the economy, the Loughborough based company has seen significant and continuous sales growth over the last six years leading to the UK’s top business honour – The Queen’s Award of International Trade in 2012.
Morningside’s aspiration: to make quality Healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world, has been the cornerstone of their success.

The company manufactures and supplies a wide range of healthcare products; including its own Morningside UK licensed branded and generic medicines and the Sensecure® range of medical devices, providing over 80 countries worldwide including key aid relief agencies such as Unicef and Red Cross.
As a key provider of pharmaceuticals to the NHS and retail pharmacy sector, it works with wholesalers and pharmacy chains across the UK, including Boots, Alliance and Lloyds Pharmacy and also manufactures own-label medicines for large generic houses.
In 2004, the company moved to its extensive premises in Loughborough, offering integrated office and warehousing. The location was chosen for its position as the geographical centre of the United Kingdom and its proximity to East Midlands Airport and the M1 motorway.
Nicky was introduced to CEO Dr Nik Kotecha who gave a presentation of the company’s activities and products.  She went on to meet employees in all parts of the business and was given a full site tour.
Dr Nik Kotecha, Morningside’s Chief Executive, said: “Twenty years ago, Morningside Pharmaceuticals was launched with the vision of giving people worldwide access to the healthcare they so desperately needed at a price they could afford.  Today, I’m delighted that not only are we achieving this goal, but that we have received recognition for our success in the form of a Queen’s Award.
“Today, it has been wonderful to speak to Nicky about our achievements and how promoting the UK reputation for superior quality standards helps us to compete successfully worldwide.  We very much hope we can be an inspiration to other local businesses”.
More than 70% of Morningside’s business comes from repeat customers who appreciate the added value that the company offers and many of its new clients come from referrals from existing customers.
Nicky Morgan, who has recently been asked by the Prime Minister to become a Minister in his Government, said “It was a real pleasure to meet Nik and all the team at Morningside.  I wanted to congratulate them on winning the Queen’s Award for Exports and also to learn more about their business.  Their success is clearly the result of hard work, Nik’s leadership and a great team effort.
“I try to meet as many local businesses as I can because I know that they are the lifeblood of our economy, providing jobs and growth and, particularly in the case of a company such as Morningside, they show that it is possible to export to many different countries and that is something the Government is very keen to promote.”
