Morningside Pharmaceuticals were delighted to be the Headline Sponsors of the first ever Real Entrepreneurs Club Awards, which celebrated the East Midlands’ best and brightest entrepreneurs at a glittering ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

The awards honoured Entrepreneurs who enhance productivity and utilise existing resources in the most effective ways, which helps to generate new wealth, and adds value to the local and national economy.

Entrepreneurship is very important to Morningside Pharmaceuticals, because we were founded on an entrepreneur’s dream to make ‘quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world’.

During the ceremony our Chief Operating Officer (COO), Monica Huang, delivered a rousing keynote speech about Morningside’s entrepreneurial journey.

Monica, who also presented the International Entrepreneur Award on the night, said: “Our business has had to pivot many times in order to grow into a leading East Midlands company today.

“It has led Morningside on a journey from being a purely export-only distributor for Aid Agencies, UN and NGOs to the developing world,  to embracing innovation based on patient needs, Research & Development and continuous improvement.

“This pivot has enabled Morningside to grow to become a developer, manufacturer and trusted supplier of generic and branded medicines to the UK and international markets.

Today, I’m very proud to acknowledge that Morningside has – since inception – exported to more than 120 countries around the world; has launched many unique products; and our medicines are distributed twice daily to the NHS in the UK.”

Many congratulations to all of the night’s nominees and winners, who are a true inspiration and trailblazers for the future health and wealth of our businesses and communities

UK East Africa Health Summit Sponsorship

UK East Africa Health Summit 2022

Morningside were once again honoured to sponsor the UK East Africa Health Summit 2022, which looked at improving the healthcare of African communities and strengthening private sector engagement in the region, post covid.

The international summit was hosted at the British Medical Association’s HQ in London, where global leaders came together, including a number of African government ministers, senior civil servants and high commissioners; alongside representatives from the House of Lords and senior NHS delegates.

Our Chairman, Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL, was proud to deliver a rousing speech on global communities’ healthcare needs, before taking part in a panel Q&A session on supporting global communities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Kotecha also spoke about Morningside’s rich history of being founded with the mission to make ‘quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world’.

This has led to Morningside supplying quality medicines directly to African countries by working with ministries of health, and through large aid agencies such as UNICEF, The World Health Organisation (WHO), MSF and the Red Cross.

Today, Morningside remains one of the UK’s leading suppliers of a wide-range of quality medicines as Aid to lower-middle income countries.

Dr Nik , said: “We were once again delighted to support this landmark international summit, where political, health and private sector leaders from the NHS and East Africa come together to share ideas, knowledge and to offer healthcare support to East African communities.

“The annual event seeks to improve the healthcare provision of East African communities and build collaborations and partnerships with NHS and Private sector organizations. This is vital to improving healthcare systems and to continue access of high-quality medicines.

“For over 30 years my company, Morningside Pharmaceuticals, has supplied high quality UK medicines directly to African countries by working with Ministries of Health, as well as through global Aid organisations. I hope this year’s conference continues to deliver the healthcare improvements in East Africa, which are already making such a huge difference to the lives of the people and communities living there.”

Medicines Donation to Ukraine

Morningside Pharmaceuticals manufactures and distributes medicines.

Morningside Pharmaceuticals has donated almost 60,000 packs, which will provide 1.29 million doses, of essential medicines to communities impacted by the War in Ukraine.

The significant donation came about after our former Chairman, Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL, spoke with the Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, at a business event in London.

At the time Dr Kotecha, said: “The heartbreaking situation in Ukraine has touched us all, and as like so many people in the United Kingdom, we’ve been keen to do everything we can to help the victims of this terrible conflict.

“After speaking to the Ambassador, the Ukrainian Embassy identified a range of Morningside manufactured medicines, which their healthcare system is in urgent need of. The Embassy and our teams at Morningside then worked closely with the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) in the UK to ensure the medicines could be shipped rapidly as humanitarian Aid.

“I would like to thank our International, Supply Chain and Warehousing teams for turning this around in a matter of days, to ensure those in urgent need of their medicines, received them as quickly as possible.”

The Morningside Pharmaceuticals team

The large shipment of medicines has been transported in a secure and temperature controlled environment via Morningside’s logistics partner to the Embassy’s distribution hub in Poland. From there the medicines will be supplied to hospitals, healthcare centres and patients throughout Ukraine, including the regions hardest hit by the Russian invasion.

Morningside Pharmaceuticals has also supported the Aid effort in Ukraine by storing a large quantity of supportive goods, such as hundreds of packs of nappies, feminine hygiene packs, sleeping bags and children’s essentials in its Loughborough warehousing.

These goods were donated through Loughborough’s Polish associations and social clubs by members of the public and have now been delivered to support Ukrainian refugees in Poland.

Culture & Communities Celebration

East Midlands Chamber's Cultures & Communities Event 2022

Morningside Pharmaceuticals were once again very proud to be a Headline Sponsor of the East Midlands Chamber’s Cultures & Communities event.

The amazing evening celebrated equality, diversity and inclusion at the Leicester Tigers Stadium, which was attended by a packed audience from across the region.

As a business which is working with communities to bring them together and improving the quality of life of the people living there, we were thrilled to show our support for this landmark cultural event, which highlights the huge benefits our multi-cultural communities bring to the East Midlands.

The night featured a terrific choral performance by children from Richardson Endowed Primary School, before speeches from each of the three headline sponsors, as well as traditional Indian dancing performances.

Morningside’s Chairman, Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL, delivered a rousing speech which highlighted the 50th anniversary of the Ugandan Asian Refugee Crisis, and the parallels with the plight of Ukrainian refugees today.

After each speech every sponsor gave away a recognition award, with Morningside presenting the Excellence in Equality category.

A great evening of celebration of the region’s rich cultures, and in particular our unique equality, diversity and inclusivity.

Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL

Morningside’s Half Marathon Team

Morningside Pharmaceuticals' Half Marathon Team

A huge well done to Morningside’s Loughborough Half Marathon Team who took part in the individual event, as well as part of a relay team.

Led by our Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Cliff Fung, the team were amongst about 200 runners, who all contributed to raising funds for charity Living Without Abuse (LWA), which helps and supports those suffering abuse.

The 13.1 Mile course started at Charnwood College and made its way towards Shepshed via Garendon Estate, then to Hathern, and back into the college campus in Loughborough.

Congratulations to the team for a great effort!
