Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s Chief Executive Dr Nik Kotecha OBE has been named as one of the UK’s top 100 most inspirational and innovative individuals.

Dr Kotecha was one of only two East Midlands individuals to be named on the 2017 ‘Faces of a Vibrant Economy’ list, produced by business and financial advisers, Grant Thornton UK.

The list identifies people – from emerging entrepreneurs to big business names – who have developed a culture that empowers, develops and motivates their people. It also highlights those who make a positive contribution to the local and wider national community, and demonstrate excellence in growth, innovation and purpose.

We are delighted to announce that Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd has won at the Pharmacy Business Awards, in the category of Innovation in Genetics.

The awards, held at the Intercontinental London, hailed the achievements of community pharmacists across the UK and was attended by 900 guests, including Steve Brine, the Minister with responsibility for Pharmacy at the Department of Health. The event was hosted by Rory Bremner.

The awards gave recognition for the role of the pharmaceutical industry and Morningside were recognised for our innovations in the generics market and in improving patient care.

The judges said: “One of the fastest growing pharma companies in the industry, Morningside makes niche medicines in a number of therapeutic areas.

“Over the last year it has launched 12 new niche products some of which include novel technology towards slow-release formulations, bringing innovation and choice to both pharmacists and patients.”

The award was collected by Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chief Executive, of Morningside.

One of the highest honours in the land has been bestowed on Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s Chief Executive, Dr Nik Kotecha.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has made Dr Kotecha an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to entrepreneurship, innovation in pharmaceutical services and philanthropy.

Speaking after receiving the honour Dr Kotecha said: “I am truly humbled and honoured to be made an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank my parents, who made so many sacrifices to ensure that their children received a good education, and my wife and children, who have helped me to achieve this honour and many other accomplishments.

“The credit for the success that Morningside Pharmaceuticals enjoys today goes to every single member of the Morningside team.”

The British Heart Foundation in Loughborough is calling on local businesses to donate unwanted office furniture to charity.

The appeal comes after Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd, based in Pavilion Way, made contact and donated a number of high quality office items.

Sharon Tracey, Office Manager for the British Heart Foundation in the Market Place, said: “I would like to call on local businesses to consider donating their furniture, as the money we raise goes directly to research into heart disease, care, equipment and after care.

“We regularly ring local businesses to see if they have anything to donate, so it was great that Morningside took the initiative and contacted us about their unwanted office furniture. It’s good quality and will really help our cause.”

Businesses wishing to donate their furniture should make contact with the charity, which will then arrange for it to be collected free of charge.

Morningside’s donation included desks, desk pedestals, filing cabinets, shelving and a reception unit.

Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chief Executive of Morningside, said: “We pride ourselves on supporting local causes and were delighted that the British Heart Foundation felt that our furniture donation would help raise money for their life-saving work.”

Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s Chief Executive Dr Nik Kotecha OBE has been named by the Institute of Directors’ as the East Midlands Director of the Year.

Dr Kotecha also won the corporate responsibility and large company categories in the regional competition and was praised by the judges for his energy, drive and ambition vision in ‘making quality healthcare an affordable and accessible reality throughout the world’.

He was presented with the Director of the Year Award by Mike Carr, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University.

Introducing the awards, Ron Lynch, IoD East Midlands Regional Director, said: “They recognise excellence on the part of directors in the East Midlands. Those who have done something special and achieved something very significant. All our entrants deserve praise for their achievements in a challenging business environment.”

The winners were revealed at the East Midlands Director of the Year Awards 2017 presentation lunch at Nottingham Conference Centre, Nottingham Trent University. It was hosted by BBC East Midlands presenter Dominic Heale.

The Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) has revealed its new three-year board setup.

We’re delighted to announce that Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd’s Chief Executive, Dr Nik Kotecha, has been invited to join the board and will serve in the post until May 2020.

The LLEP has also re-appointed four board members to serve a second three year term: Andrew Cliffe, Managing Director, East Midlands Airport, Jaspal Singh Minhas, Managing Director, Electrical Design & MFG Co Ltd, Sharon Redrobe, CEO, Twycross Zoo and Kevin Harris, Vice-Chair of the LLEP.

Commenting on his new role as a LLEP Board member, Dr Kotecha, said: “Morningside Pharmaceuticals has been successfully growing for over 25 years. We are dedicated to delivering first-class medicines that can make a significant difference to the lives of patients globally. Our products are delivered to UK hospitals and pharmacies twice daily.”

“I’m thrilled to join the LLEP Board and looking forward to helping drive economic growth for Leicester and Leicestershire, by addressing the key strategic issues that will support business growth and investment; and create sustainable employment opportunities.”

The LLEP is one of 38 Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) in the country, led by the business community to spearhead local economic development.

The board is made up of a Chair and seven private sector members: the City Mayor, Leader of the County Council, two District Council Leaders, Vice-Chancellor of one of the three universities and a Principal of one of the further education colleges

Nick Pulley, Chair of the LLEP, added: “I’d like to personally welcome Nik to the LLEP Board. Nik will bring a wealth of business experience as well as extensive knowledge and expertise in the life sciences sector.”

The LLEP Board play an important role by shaping the strategy for growth, making key investment decisions and acting as ambassadors for Leicester and Leicestershire at a local, national and international level.

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, invited Dr Nik Kotecha OBE to join her on her first trade mission to India.

Dr Kotecha, Chief Executive of Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd, was among 30 captains of industry on the three day visit to Delhi and Mumbai, in order to drum up business and help negotiate a post-Brexit trade agreement.

During the visit Prime Minister, Theresa May, said: “I am showing off the best of British on my trade trip to India – and Morningside Pharmaceuticals is a great example of what the United Kingdom can offer the world as we leave the EU.”

Following the trip £1.2 billion in trade deals were announced.

This was the Prime Minister’s first trade mission, with a business delegation drawn from regions across the UK accompanying her to India. The Secretary of State for International Trade, Liam Fox, and the Trade Minister Greg Hands also joined the visit.

Background to the Visit

The Prime Minister went to India to deliver on her ambitious vision for Britain after Brexit, forging a new global role for the UK beyond the continent of Europe.

She also delivered on her pledge for an economy that works for all, by introducing new and emerging enterprises, as well as more established players, to the key Indian market.

A number of commercial deals were signed during the visit, creating and securing jobs at home and demonstrating market confidence in the strength of the British economy.

The Prime Minister met with Prime Minister Modi to discuss developing the strategic partnership between the UK and India, building on the deep links and co-operation we already share.

Alongside Prime Minister Modi, the Prime Minister inaugurated the India-UK TECH Summit, South Asia’s largest technology conference.

The Indian diaspora plays a vital role in our national life with approximately 1.5 million people of Indian origin in the UK and Indian companies currently employing over 100,000 people in the UK. India is now our second largest international job creator, with 7,105 new jobs in Britain in the past year.

Former Bank of England Governor provides valuable insights into the UK and global economy at black tie dinner.

Lord Mervyn King was interviewed by Dr Nik Kotecha OBE, Chief Executive of Morningside Pharmaceuticals Ltd, during the event at Leicester County Cricket Club’s Grace Road ground.

A number of local and national businesses came to listen to Lord King and ask some questions as he gave a fascinating talk. Dr Nik Kotecha’s Q&A with Lord King, who was Bank of England Governor for 10 years, was filled with various topics from the economy to politics and from Brexit to sports.

The 45 minute long Q&A gave all attendees an insight into many of Lord King’s views and experiences – answering all of the questions asked with integrity and honesty.

Dr Nik Kotecha said: “It was a great experience to host the 45 minute long Q&A with Lord Mervyn King, he is a charming man. All the questions asked from the economy to sports, including his resignation from Aston Villa Football Club were answered with honesty and it gave everyone a good insight.

“To have this opportunity was an honour and a privilege, I would like to thank Leicestershire County Cricket Club for providing this opportunity for myself and making the evening one to remember.”

Lord King left his office as the Governor of the Bank of England on June 30^th2013, and was replaced by Mark Carney. He was appointed a life peer by Queen Elizabeth II for ‘contributions to public service’. Mervyn King entered the House of Lords on July 22^nd2013 as a crossbencher, taking the title Baron King of Lothbury.
